The Black Crowes – ‘Remedy’ Music Video from 1992

In 1992, The Black Crowes released their second studio album titled The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, which became their first and only album to top the Billboard 200 Album chart. The album spawned four number one rock songs in a row with Remedy, Sting Me, Thorn in My Pride, and Hotel Illness. Remedy spent more weeks atop the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts than any other song in 1992. It hit number one on May 2nd and stayed there for 11 weeks.

Michael Jackson – Slave To The Rhythm – Music Video

Michael Jackson originally recorded ‘Slave To The Rhythm’ in 1990 for his ‘Dangerous’ album, but the song didn’t make the cut. However in February 2014, Sony and Jackson’s estate announced a partnership with Sony Mobile and a new version of the song was used in the commercials. And, on May 18, 2014, a Pepper’s ghost illusion of Michael Jackson performed ‘Slave to the Rhythm’ for the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. Reception of the performance among Michael’s fans has been mixed, with many fans believing that an impersonator was used. Check out the performance below and let us know your thoughts.

Michael Jackson – Ghosts – Music Video

Michael Jackson’s ‘Ghosts’ was a hit around the world, but did not chart in the United States. The full version of the music video is 38 minutes long and holds the Guinness World Record for longest music video. The video was inspired by the isolation Michael felt after he was accused of child sexual abuse in 1993. The video centers around Michael as the Maestro who’s nearly chased out of his town by the residents and the mayor (who intentionally resembles Tom Sneddon, a prosecutor in the 1993 accusations) because they believe him to be a “freak.” Check out the short version below!

In 1997, Sir Elton John performed a special version of ‘Candle In The Wind’ at Princess Diana’s funeral. According to the Guinness Book of Records, ‘Candle in the Wind 1997’ is the second highest selling single of all time (behind Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” from 1942), and it is the highest selling single since charts began in the 1950s. I still remember exactly where I was when Princess Diana died… May she continue to rest in peace.

Warrant – ‘Cherry Pie’ Music Video

In 1990, Warrant released their ‘Cherry Pie’ album, and the lead single of the same name turned out to be both one of their biggest successes, and the beginning of the end for both Warrant and hair bands in general. ‘Cherry Pie’ peaked at #10 on the Hot 100 charts and the music video below was hugely popular on MTV for a while. Warrant would follow up this song with another top ten on the Hot 100 charts for ‘I Saw Red’, the second single from ‘Cherry Pie’, but that would be their last top 40 hit of their careers.

Because, at the same time ‘Cherry Pie’ was heading up the charts, some little known bands at the time like Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Alice in Chains were about to take over the world and hair would be replaced by flannel on MTV, and most hair bands never survived the grunge invasion.

In 1998, Metallica released a cover of Bob Seger’s ‘Turn The Page, and it became Metallica’s biggest hit on the rock charts to date. The song spent 11 consecutive weeks at number one on the Mainstream Rock charts in the late 90’s. MTV refused to air the music video below due to the content, which featured the day in the life of a woman who worked as a stripper during the day and a prostitute at night. The woman was played by adult film actress Ginger Lynn.
