In 1996, ‘Big Me’ peaked at number three on the alt rock charts and #18 on the mainstream rock charts. The music video was a huge hit on MTV. It parodies Mentos’ commercials in the ’90s, and the video won the ‘Best Group Video’ award at the 1996 MTV Video Music Awards.
As a side note, they stopped playing the song in concerts for a while because fans would throw Mentos at the band while they played ‘Big Me’, and according to lead singer Dave Grohl, “We did stop playing that song for a while because, honestly, it’s like being stoned. Those little … things are like pebbles – they hurt.”
