Tin Cup was released to theaters in 1996 and starred Kevin Costner, Cheech Marin, Rene Russo, and Don Johnson. It was a moderate success at the box office bringing in over $75 million on a budget of $45 million, but it has since become a cult favorite amongst golf and sports fans alike.
One of the best scenes in the movie is when Roy (Costner) challenges David (Johnson) to a bet to see who can hit a 7-iron the farthest. Roy bets his car against David putting up $1,000. Needless to say, Roy was in need of a ride after the bet. In typical Roy “Tin Cup” fashion, Roy let his ego get the best of him while David used his brain.
