In 1991, Chris Cornell formed Temple of the Dog as a tribute to his friend, Andrew Wood, the lead singer of the bands Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone, who tragically died of a drug overdose way too soon in his early life. The band included Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam (and ex-Mother Love Bone members), Mike McCready from Pearl Jam, Matt Cameron from Soundgarden (and currently with Pearl Jam) and Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam.
‘Hunger Strike’ was the first single released from the band’s only studio album, ‘Temple of the Dog’. It was their most popular song and remains one of the greatest songs from the 90s grunge rock era.
