In 1998, Fuel released their debut album Sunburn, which produced four top 40 hits on the Alternative Airplay chart, which included a number two hit for their debut single Shimmer. They scored their first number one hit on the Alternative Airplay chart in 2000 with Hemorrhage (In My Hands) from their second studio album, Something Like Human.
